The court has rejected the petition filed while deciding the hearing on the plea that was given to the candidates who appeared in the UPSC examination last year. After the court’s decision in the case, due to Corona not being able to appear in the examination held in October 2020, the candidates with the last appearance will no longer get an extra chance.
Court reserved decision on 9 February
The petition was heard by a three-member bench of the Supreme Court justices AM Khanwilkar, Indu Malhotra and Ajay Rastogi. The bench rejected all these petitions and said that the copy of this order will be uploaded on the website of the Supreme Court in some time. Earlier, on 9 February, the bench reserved the verdict after hearing all the arguments of the petitioner, the central government and the UPSC.
Government agreed to give conditional opportunity
Earlier, during the hearing in the case, the Central Government had agreed to give another chance to those candidates who were not able to appear in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2020 due to Corona. However, the Center disagreed to give another chance to candidates whose maximum age limit had also expired.
Frontline workers also included in the demanding candidates
On the conditional consent of the Center, the lawyers of the petitioners said that there is no benefit only by giving additional opportunity, relaxation in age limit should also be provided. He also said that this is a very difficult exam, which requires study material and coaching class. But all this could not be possible because of Corona. Candidates seeking additional opportunity for examination also include candidates who played as frontline workers during the Corona epidemic.
