Gunman takes own life after injuring 4 near elite Washington prep school, authorities state

WASHINGTON: A gunman opened fire on random victims from a sniper’s nest on the upper flooring of a home building near an elite prep school in the country’s capital on Friday, injuring four individuals, before taking his own life as authorities burst into his house, officials stated.
Cops said the suspect, Raymond Spencer, 23, of rural Fairfax, Virginia, was at first recognized from video he had published on social networks that appeared to reveal gunshots fired from the perspective of an upper-floor window, with the misspelled label: “Shool shooting!”
Washington Metropolitan Cops Chief Robert Contee informed a late-night news conference the video “looks quite to be authentic,” but it stayed uncertain whether the video was streamed live or had been posted after it was tape-recorded.
Police had released a bulletin with photographs of Spencer hours earlier stating they were seeking him as a “person of interest” in their investigation.
Spencer killed himself as law enforcement officers entered his apartment or condo, which had actually been organized in a “sniper-type setup” with a weapon installed on a tripod, Contee said.
He stated the four victims were contended random as “they were setting about their business … on the streets of the District of Columbia.”
3 people struck by gunfire were required to location healthcare facilities – a 54-year-old guy and a lady in her mid-30s with severe injuries, and a 12-year-old lady wounded in the arm, Assistant Cops Chief Stuart Emerman stated throughout an earlier rundown.
A fourth victim, a woman in her mid-60s, was dealt with on the scene for a minor graze wound, Emerman said.
Eyewitnesses informed Reuters and local media outlets they heard numerous bursts of shooting in the high end Van Ness neighborhood of northwest Washington beside the Edmund Burke School, a private college preparatory academy, just as classes will be dismissed for the day.
Contee said at least 20 rounds were fired.
Authorities said they had no intention for the shooting, which took place along a hectic Connecticut Opportunity corridor that is also house to several foreign embassies, the Howard University School of Law and a school of the University of the District of Columbia.
