Traveler opens emergency situation exit, walks on wing of plane in US: Reports
NEW YORK: A 57-year-old United Airlines passenger has actually been taken into custody after he opened the fire escape of the airplane and walked out onto the wing of the airplane while it was taxiing cab at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, according to media reports.
The male from California was apprehended on Thursday, CNN reported.
“A male topic was onboard a plane that was approaching eviction when he pulled the fire escape and went out onto the wing of the airplane,” according to a statement from the Chicago Cops Department (CPD).
“The subject then slid down the wing and onto the airfield,” Chicago Authorities included. Randy Frank Davila has been charged with negligent conduct, according to Chicago cops.
The event occurred on United Airlines flight 2478 originating from San Diego. United Airlines said the ground team stopped the private outside the aircraft. When the airplane reached eviction, all travelers deplaned securely, according to a statement from the airline company.
Police stated he was taken into custody “without event” and charged with the misdemeanour. He will appear in court on June 27, CBS News reported.
The charges come as unruly travelers continue to disrupt flights, with some even attempting to open doors mid-flight. In February, an American Airlines flight attendant needed to hit a guy with a coffee pot after he tried to open the passenger door mid-flight.
In April, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) revealed its largest-ever fines: USD 81,950 for a passenger who apparently hit a flight attendant, tried to open a cabin door, and headbutted and tried to kick team members and passengers; and USD 77,272 for a woman who presumably attempted to “exit during flight” and consistently bit another guest, the report added.
The FAA got more than 5,500 reports of unruly behaviour last year, and the spike in traveler outbursts has prompted some airlines to establish internal ban lists.
