FIFA+ Unveils First Indian Documentary, Maitanam, an Ode to Kerala’s Love for Football
FIFA announced the launch of the sports documentary Maitanam for the newly introduced digital streaming platform FIFA+ in India on Sunday. Maitanam signs up with an elite list of global sports storytelling content as part of the choose FIFA+ originals provided globally.The 40-minute
love letter to the game, Maitanam, consists of six inspirational and brilliant stories from the Indian state of Kerala where football is a way of living. The documentary is now streaming around the world on FIFA+.
Maitanam, the Malayalam word that literally suggests ‘ground’ or, by extension, arena, is a caring ode to Kerala’s passion and tries to capture the Malayali enthusiasm for the sport, and likewise its ubiquity in the state of Kerala.From the state capital Thiruvananthapuram in the severe south to the business capital Kochi and the cultural capital Thrissur, the documentary covers diverse terrains, meeting priests that play barefoot, a ladies’s team that has been making waves in overseas competitions, little women training under nonagenarians; and an interesting football commentator whose passion for the game appears in every belly-laugh and anecdote to the game of football in the state of Kerala.Andrew Whitelaw, commissioning editor & APAC content lead at FIFA +stated in
