Apple, Amazon, Google, IBM, Meta Executives to Talk About Software Security at White Home

The White House will meet executives from leading tech firms, consisting of Alphabet-owned Google, Apple, and Amazon, on Thursday to talk about software security after the United States suffered numerous significant cyberattacks last year.In December, White Home National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan sent a letter to presidents of tech companies after the discovery of a security vulnerability in open-source software called Log4j that organisations around the world usage to log data in their applications.In the letter, Sullivan noted that such open source software application is broadly used and preserved by volunteers and is a”essential national security issue. “Thursday’s meeting, which will be hosted by deputy national security consultant for cyber & emerging innovation, Anne Neuberger, will go over issues around the security of open-source software application and how it can be improved, the White House stated in a statement.Other top tech companies in presence at the meeting will consist of IBM, Microsoft, Meta Platforms which owns Facebook and Oracle. Federal government companies, consisting of the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense and the Commerce Department, will likewise remain in attendance.Cybersecurity has been a top priority for the Biden administration after numerous major cyberattacks last year , whichexposed countless records held by business and federal government agencies to hackers.One hack, which the US federal government has stated was most likely managed by Russia, breached software made by SolarWinds and provided hackers access to countless business and government workplaces that used its products.
